MLB.TV Goes Down on Opening Day 2025

The 2025 MLB regular season started for most teams on March 27, and many games started either at 3 PM ET or 4 PM ET. However, those who hoped to watch the action on MLB.TV was left in the dark — literally. That’s because loading the app led to either a crash or a black screen.

The MLB app experienced significant problems during the 3:00 PM ET/12:00 PM PT hour. While the app was working (the author of this article was able to get on for the Orioles/Blue Jays game) initially, it eventually became impossible to change to a different broadcast.

Eventually, the app became inaccessible. Testing on our end through the Xbox Series X|S & Amazon Fire TV apps, plus the desktop version, came up with either a blank screen or the app crashing altogether.

Inidividuals on social media also confirmed that the app was not working.

MLB.TV is the league’s official home for out-of-market games, meaning games not available on local RSNs or national TV. However, a new layer to MLB.TV has been the addition of local packages. Several teams, including the Dodgers, Phillies, and Mets, are allowing individuals to buy access to broadcasts via MLB.TV and can be watched through the app.

The league stated before Opening Day that 27 of the 30 MLB teams now have a direct-to-consumer streaming option. This is key, as MLB has made it a public priority to eliminate local blackouts to make broadcasts more accessible to the modern-day baseball fan.

However, the stress of Opening Day has apparently made it tough for anyone to watch many games on the app. The ESPN app, broadcasting the Brewers/Yankees game, is working as of this writing.

UPDATE (3/27): Access to the app was back as of 4:30 PM ET.
