MLB free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker remains the top player available on the open market, and the Toronto Blue Jays continue to be viewed as the favorites to land him.
Securing Tucker would cap what could be considered the best offseason in franchise history, further widening the gap between Toronto and much of the American League.
Tucker posted a .266 batting average, .377 on-base percentage and .841 OPS last season, while adding 22 home runs, 25 stolen bases and 73 RBIs across 136 games.
Though injuries slowed him after the All-Star break, his overall track record underscores why he is still regarded as one of MLB’s premier talents.
On Saturday, the Blue Jays continued to flex their seemingly unlimited payroll this offseason, though not on Tucker.
Instead, they invested in Japanese phenom Kazuma Okamoto, signing him to a four-year, $60 million deal to fill a corner infield spot in 2026.
The move immediately sparked speculation about whether Toronto’s front office would still pursue another top bat.
However, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com noted that the Okamoto signing should not be viewed as the end of Toronto’s spending spree.
“I don't view the Okamoto deal as taking the #BlueJays ‘out’ of anything, Tucker and Bichette included. You can't be out of a market you don't know the cost of yet. They, like everyone else, are waiting on the right prices. They're moving like big dogs and should continue to,” Matheson reported.
That perspective keeps Tucker firmly in play, and the possibility of him landing in Toronto has drawn attention from former teammates.
Myles Straw, now with the Blue Jays after previously sharing the outfield with Tucker on the Houston Astros, dropped a message in Tucker’s Instagram comment section after the free agent posted an offseason training slideshow. “My doggggg,” Straw wrote Saturday.
Straw’s message was a reminder of the respect Tucker commands from those who have played alongside him. That admiration stems from an impressive big-league tenure that has already seen Tucker establish himself as one of the game’s most complete outfielders.
Over eight MLB seasons, the 28-year-old has earned four All-Star selections, two Silver Sluggers and a Gold Glove Award.
If the Blue Jays were to land Tucker, it would not only boost their chances of returning to the World Series in 2026 but also solidify their standing as favorites across the American League.
