Nationals Get James Wood Update After 6 Missed Games

The Washington Nationals are still attempting to claw their way back into the National League Wild Card race despite selling at the 2026 Trade Deadline.

While they sit five games back of a Wild Card spot and in fourth place of the National League East division, their top-five offense will not quit, they have put up 20 runs in their last three games.

This stat is even more impressive when noting that All-Star outfielder James Wood has been missing from the team for the past six games.

Wood is currently on the 10-day injured list with a mild left oblique strain that he suffered in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies on August 2.

In good news, it was reported by Kyle Williams on Tuesday that Wood has begun some baseball activities, as he took stationary ground balls over the weekend.

This is a great sign for the 23-year-old just nine days separated from his injury.

Wood has been a huge part of the Nationals' lineup once again this season.

In 114 games played, Wood is slashing .265/.393/.535, good for a .928 OPS, with 30 home runs, 73 RBIs, 90 walks and 26 doubles.

As the Nationals attempt to finish their season strong, a return of their offensive powerhouse would be a huge boost.

The Nationals welcome the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night to begin a three-game series.
