Seaver King is one step closer to the major leagues.
The Washington Nationals have promoted their No. 8 prospect to Triple-A Rochester, according to The Athletic's Spencer Nusbaum. The 23-year-old shortstop was selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft and has shined so far in 2026.

The 2024 first-round pick (No. 94 in Keith Law’s Top 100) has reached base in all 35 games he’s played this year.
Hit .336 with a .989 OPS in Double A.
King opened the 2026 season with Double-A Harrisburg after finishing last year at the same level. However, following his promotion to Double-A in 2025, the shortstop struggled offensively. In 80 games with the Harrisburg Senators last season, King slashed .233/.287/.313 with three home runs and 26 RBI. Those numbers marked a significant drop from the .263/.307/.380 line he posted with Single-A Wilmington earlier in the season. There, he recorded three home runs and 17 RBIs in 45 games.
But in 2026, King's potential has been on full display. Through 35 games this season, the shortstop is slashing .336/.427/.562 with five home runs and 27 RBIs. He has also shown impressive plate discipline, drawing 22 walks while striking out just 31 times. Most impressively, King has reached base safely in every game this season.
His OPS has skyrocketed from .600 in .2025 to .989 this season, while his walk rate has jumped from 6.4 percent to 13.3 percent.

While King is unlikely to make his MLB debut in 2026, his promotion to Triple-A is an encouraging sign for Washington's future. Furthermore, his rise is just one piece of the organization's impressive infield depth. Eli Willits, MLB Pipeline's No. 4 prospect and last year's first overall pick in the MLB Draft, and Ronny Cruz, the Nationals' No. 4 prospect, have both flashed big upside this season. They appear poised to become important pieces of the franchise's future.
At the major league level, C.J. Abrams is putting together an All-Star caliber first half. Behind him, though, Washington's pipeline of young shortstops continues to showcase the organization's long-term strength at that position.
