Deiten LaChance opened the scoring with a two-run home run, giving his team a 2–0 lead. The Tar Heels got those runs back and took the lead in the bottom half of the first. Gavin Gallagher singled home two runs to tie it, and Colin Hynek tied it with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2. In the third, LaChance tied it back up with a solo home run to make it 3-3. In the fourth, Kyle Branch singled home two runs to give Oklahoma the lead. The Sooners weren’t done there, as Jason Walk and Camden Johnson each singled in a run to extend the lead to 7–3. In the sixth, Walk singled home a run, adding to the Sooners’ lead. In the ninth, Jaxon Willits grounded into a double play, bringing home another run.
Cord Rager got the ball for Oklahoma, going five innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out five. The bullpen combined to go four scoreless innings, allowing two hits. They combined to walk two and struck out six. Jason DeCaro got the ball for the Tar Heels. He went 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out six. The North Carolina bullpen went 5.1 innings, allowing one run on seven hits. They walked one and struck out four.
