New York Mets First Baseman Pete Alonso had a game for the ages Wednesday night on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Alonso’s performances helped New York win 6-1. He finished the game with two home runs and 5 RBI. It was the star first baseman’s 11th career game with 5+ RBI. That broke a tie with franchise legend David Wright for the most such games in team history.
Alonso is also second in franchise history for the most RBI(50) in New York’s first 62 games of a season. Only Alonso’s from 2022, with 57 RBI, has more through 62 games. Alonso has been very good this year. He is top 10 in the league in home runs, RBI, and OPS. Will Alonso continue being a contributor to New York’s offense?

New York entered the regular season with lofty expectations. They have lived up to them thus far. They are leading the National League East at 39-23. New York’s offense has been mediocre in 2025. They are 16th in the league in batting average, 10th in home runs, and 11th in runs scored. The New York Mets were looking for better production on offense with such a star-studded lineup. Shortstop Francisco Lindor has not played up to his potential, and marquee signing Juan Soto has looked like a shell of himself to start the year.
New York’s pitching staff has been their strength in 2025. They are leading the league in ERA by a wide margin, fourth in opposing batting average, and 12th in opposing batting average. This is an exciting development for the pitching staff as many of their key pieces have yet to make their season debuts.
Alonso and the New York Mets return to the diamond this afternoon looking to win their series against the Dodgers. New York then continues their road trip with a three-game set against the suddenly red-hot Colorado Rockies on Friday. New York will look to keep their great season going.
