The New York Mets have selected Michigan Wolverines second baseman Mitch Voit in the 2025 MLB Draft. Voit has spent the previous three seasons with Michigan.

Mitch Voit is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There, he went to Whitefish Bay High School. Coming out of high school, Voit was the 500th-ranked prospect by Perfect Game. He was also the 175th right-handed pitcher in that cycle.

During his time with Michigan, Voit has both pitched and been a position player. As a pitcher, Voit had a 5.31 ERA in 98.1 innings pitched over 29 games. That includes 11 starts. During that time, he had 66 strikeouts and he walked 28 batters. An elbow injury would force him to get an internal brace procedure and he didn’t pitch in 2025.

In the 2025 season, Mitch Voit worked as a second baseman and didn’t pitch for Michigan. For the year, he hit .346 with a .471 OBP and a .668 slugging percentage for a 1.140 OPS. He would also hit 14 home runs with 60 RBIs. On top of that, he had 14 stolen bases. Defensively, he had a .986 fielding percentage with just four errors for the season. Those were by far the best numbers of his career, in his only season as only a position player.

Over the course of his career at Michigan, which consisted of 169 games, Voit hit for a .303 average with a .398 OBP, .564 slugging percentage, and a .962 OPS. He had 35 career home runs, 138 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases.

Ahead of the MLB Draft, MLB.com ranked Mitch Voit as the 63rd available prospect. There, they also shared a write-up of what they saw from him as a prospect.

“Now that he’s a full-time hitter, Voit has significantly improved his approach, making better swing decisions and barreling balls more regularly. His right-handed stroke can get rotational at times and he can get pull-happy, but he also hits the ball hard and has feel for launching balls in the air. His power plays from the left-field line to right-center and could produce 15-20 homers per season,” MLB.com wrote.

“Voit’s plus speed makes him a base stealing threat and gives him range at second base. Scouts have been pleasantly surprised with how quickly he has become a reliable defender at the keystone. He has a stronger arm than most at the position and featured a low-90s fastball with a low-80s slider when he pitched in the past.”

While at Michigan, Mitch Voit was on the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. Then, he would also be an All-Big Ten First Team Utility Selection in 2024. Now, he will have the opportunity to join the professional ranks and continue to rack up accolades at the next level.
