The New York Yankees had a comeback for the ages last night at home against the Seattle Mariners. New York ended up winning 6-5 in 10 innings on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge. New York was flummoxed by Mariners Starting Pitcher Bryan Woo over the first seven innings. He had a no-hit bid heading into the bottom of the 8th.

New York last night was the first team since June 24, 1977, to win a game after losing by 5+ runs with no hits in the 8th inning. Catcher Austin Wells added 3 late RBI, DH Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer, and Judge hit the game-winning sacrifice fly. How will the New York Yankees fare in their next game?

Following six straight losses, New York has won four straight games. They are in second place in the American League East(52-41). New York’s offense is one of the best in Major League Baseball. They are sixth in the league in batting average, leading the league in home runs, and third in runs scored. Judge is putting together another MVP-caliber campaign. He is leading the league in batting average, second in home runs, first in RBI, first in Slugging Percentage, and the leader in OPS.

New York’s pitching staff has been inconsistent. They are 14th in ERA, second in opposing batting average, and seventh in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Max Fried has paced the unit in 2025. He is leading the league in wins, fifth in ERA, and eighth in WHIP. The team must get better production from its pitching staff as a whole for the team to reach its full potential.

Final Thoughts

The New York Yankees close out the first half of the regular season with a three-game set at home against the Chicago Cubs. This will be a great series and a possible World Series preview. Both of the teams will be looking to make an impact in this marquee series.
