Less than 24 hours after the MLB Trade Deadline, the New York Yankees released veteran Starting Pitcher Marcus Stroman. This move did not come as a shock, as Stroman has not been good in 2025. He was 3-2 with a 6.23 ERA. For a team eyeing a deep postseason run, New York will go on without Stroman. How will this move work out for the Yankees?
Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
• Added RHP David Bednar (#53), RHP Jake Bird (#59), RHP Camilo Doval (#75) and INF/OF José Caballero (#72) to the active roster.
• Released RHP Marcus Stroman from the roster.— New York Yankees (@Yankees) August 1, 2025
New York’s deadline consisted of General Manager Brian Cashman bolstering the ballclub’s pitching staff. The team acquired Relief Pitcher David Bednar, Relief Pitcher Jake Bird , and Relief Pitcher Camilo Doval. The New York Yankees decided they would be better off without Stroman in the fold.
New York’s pitching staff will continue to be anchored by Carlos Rodon, Max Fried, and Will Warren. Even though Stroman has not pitched up to his potential, he provided stability to an injury-riddled unit.
