The 2024 season was a disastrous one for pitching prospects in the Toronto Blue Jays system due to Tommy John surgery.

This marks the beginning of Blue Jays Nation’s annual mid-season prospect list, where we’ll take a look at the 50-best prospects in the organization. I’ll look at the player’s stats, what other publications have to say, as well as my own observations of the players.

Nolan Perry was one of many prospects who underwent Tommy John surgery at some point during 2024, and he’ll miss the entirety of the 2025 season. Despite that, Perry ranks as our 50th-best prospect.

Getting to know Nolan Perry…

Position: Starting pitcher

Throws: Right

Born: September 2, 2003

Acquired: 12th round, 2022 draft

Previous Ranking: Honourable mention (2024 pre-season)

Perry was selected in the 12th round of the 2022 draft and made his professional debut in 2023. It wasn’t a great start to his career, as he finished with a 7.28 ERA and 4.05 FIP in 38.1 innings pitched with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays, with a 28.3 K% and an 8.9 BB%.

The right-handed pitcher had some helium heading into the 2024 season and performed well with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, authoring a 2.93 ERA and 4.25 FIP in 46 innings pitched. Perry’s strikeout rate remained high at 27.5 K%, but his BB% ticked up significantly, as the New Mexico native walked 18.8% of batters.

Toward the end of the 2024 season, Perry underwent Tommy John surgery, leading to him missing the entirety of the 2025 season, a disappointing end to a promising season. When healthy, Perry averaged 92 mph on his two fastballs (four-seamers and two-seamers). He also throws a curveball, slider, changeup, and cutter.

In Single-A, Perry was in the 81st percentile for whiffs, getting a 37% whiff percentage last season. He also generated relatively soft contact and ranked well among most percentiles, except for his walk rate, according to Prospect Savant.

The 2026 season will be a big one for Perry. It’ll be his age-22 season, and a season similar to 2024 would elevate him in top prospect rankings. Working back from Tommy John is never easy, so hopefully there are no setbacks because the stuff is good.
