It's an abbreviated slate of games around Major League Baseball, but there is profit potential. There are six games Monday with a long list of teams taking the day off for travel. We're looking to cash some prop bets - specifically no runs scored in the first inning.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays were all in their respective league's championship series last year. All three possess robust starting rotations to keep the scoreboard clean in the first inning.

The Rays send RHP Drew Rasmussen to the bump on Monday, and he has been good in the first inning this season. He has allowed three earned runs (3.86 ERA) and four hits over seven first innings in starts this season. Those three runs came in just two of those seven starts. Blue Jays RHP Kevin Gausman has been even better, allowing three hits and no runs in the first inning of his eight starts. Neither offense is particularly potent. Tampa was tied for 13th with 4.4 runs per game, and Toronto was 20th at 4.2 runs per game, before games began Sunday.
RHP George Kirby toes the rubber for Seattle, and he has allowed two runs in the first inning of his eight starts for a 2.25 ERA. Astros RHP Peter Lambert has done his part in cashing a NRFI by allowing just one ER in four starts during the first frame. Both pitchers have been great overall with sub-3.00 ERAs on the season.
Rounding out Monday's slate is the Giants and Dodgers. RHP Trevor McDonald goes for San Fran, and he has allowed just one run in seven innings this season. Unfortunately, that run came in the first, so he'll need a better first frame in his second start. RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been bumped back to a Tuesday start, and Roki Sasaki will start instead. While Sasaki has struggled this year with a 5.97 ERA, manager Dave Roberts recently said, “I will say I think that Roki, the last four [starts], each outing has gotten better in certain areas.”
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
