NRFI, YRFI MLB Bets Today: Best First Inning Predictions for Thurssday, June 4
Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images

We have nine games on the Thursday slate, and four of them start in the early afternoon. Be sure to get those NRFI and YRFI bets in early.

We like the NRFI bet in the San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies, powered by Comeback Player of the Year candidate Zack Wheeler. From there, we look to get the bats moving early with YRFIs between the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox and again in the San Francisco Giants-Milwaukee Brewers matchup.

Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today

San Diego Padres at Philadelphia Phillies NRFI (-115)

RHP Lucas Giolito makes his fourth start back from the IL, and he was pretty good in the first two. In his third start, though, he gave up four ER, and two of them came in the first. He'll be the tough leg to get through the first unscathed. RHP Zack Wheeler has allowed two earned runs in the first inning through seven starts as he builds on a potential Comeback Player of the Year Award. He's 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA.

Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox YRFI (-135)

This game features a pitching matchup hitters circled on their calendars. Orioles LHP Trevor Rogers is 2-6 with a 6.84 ERA, and Red Sox RHP Brayan Bello is 2-5 with a 5.63 ERA. Bello wishes the first inning wasn't a thing because his ERA is 11.57, and opponents are hitting .400 off of him. Rogers is a little better in the first, but he loses command quickly. This is one you might tail the Over on as well as the YRFI.

San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers YRFI (-130)

RHP Adrian Houser is a notorious firework for the scoreboard in the first inning. He has a 9.00 ERA in the first through 11 starts, and his career ERA in the first is 5.63 -- the worst of any inning. He's also facing his former team, which could get him a little too amped up and leave a meatball right over the heart of the plate. RHP Coleman Crow is making just his fourth career start, and this YRFI looks juicy.

What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?

The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
