The Seattle Mariners will be without first baseman Ty France on Wednesday night when they host the Oakland Athletics for game three of a four-game series at T-Mobile Park.
France left Tuesday's game in the eighth inning after being hit by a pitch on the wrist from A's reliever Trevor May.
While Sam Haggerty is playing first base on Wednesday, the report on France is relatively good, according to Jen Mueller of Root Sports.
Ty France is officially day-to-day with a bruised wrist. He was in good spirits this afternoon and when I saw him was wearing the beginnings of a wrist guard (having it molded to his hand/wrist)
It's good that it appears that France will avoid the injured list but even missing him for a night is a big deal to the Mariners. They rank in the bottom third of most offensive metrics, so his absence is significant. As a result, Julio Rodriguez will move up from third to second in the order. Haggerty will bat ninth.
For the season, France is hitting .261 with three homers and 21 RBI. He was acquired by the Mariners during the COVID 2020 season and is a lifetime .277 hitter with 52 homers and 224 RBI.
He was a 34th-round pick of the Padres back in the 2015 draft out of San Diego State, where he played for the legendary Tony Gwynn.
The Mariners and A's will kick it off at 9:40 p.m. ET. Bryce Miller will pitch for Seattle against Austin Pruitt, who is acting as an opener.
