One Brewers Prospect With Soaring Stock Right Now

When the 2026 Major League Baseball trade deadline approached, the Milwaukee Brewers tried to make a splash.

The Brewers were among the clubs connected to former Detroit Tigers superstar Tarik Skubal before he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the aftermath, it was reported that the Brewers offered three players to the Tigers, including No. 2 overall prospect Luis Peña.

While this is the case, the Brewers had four players off limits in Jesús Made, Logan Henderson, Cooper Pratt and Luis Lara. The Brewers were smart not to include these guys for a rental in Skubal.

Earlier in the summer, we made the case for three players to be untouchable, even for Skubal. They were Made, Peña and Andrew Fischer. The fact that Milwaukee was even willing to include Peña in an offer for Skubal shows how serious they were. The fact that Detroit didn't make the move was a mistake on its part.

The Brewers Have A Budding Star In High-A

Peña has been overshadowed a bit, in large part because Made is in the organization. They are both 19 years old and play in the infield. Right now, Peña is in High-A, whereas Made is in Double-A. They were teammates last season.

Peña would be the No. 1 overall prospect for most teams. He's that good. So far this season, he has slashed .318/.408/.464 with an .871 OPS, two home runs, 23 RBIs, 27 stolen bases, 10 doubles and five triples in 50 games played. He dealt with adversity earlier in the season, but is just fine now.

There are few players in the Brewers' farm system hotter than Peña right now as well. Since July 7, the young infielder has slashed .329/.396/.524 with a .920 OPS, one home run, nine RBIs, six walks, seven doubles and three triples in 21 games. He's been even better since the calendar turned to August. Peña has slashed .351/.415/.568 with a .982 OPS in nine games.

At this point, Peña should be packing up his bags and heading up to Double-A. Frankly, there's no reason for him to be down in High-A any longer. He has shown that he can absolutely dominate High-A pitching and he should be in line for a promotion soon.

Made has dominated Double-A pitching. He should be moved up to Triple-A. The second he moves up, Peña should move up and replace Made in Double-A. Both moves should happen as fast as possible.
