The Baltimore Orioles and Athletics agreed to a trade on Friday. The Athletics announced that right-handed pitcher Eduarniel Nunez was traded to Baltimore for cash considerations. According to Roch Kubatko, right-handed pitcher Christian Roa was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

The Orioles’ trade comes after it was revealed that infielder Jordan Westburg will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing elbow surgery. The O’s have had an up and down season, and injuries have played a significant role in their underperformance. Injury concerns have been quite common for the Orioles.

Perhaps Nunez will help Baltimore following the trade on Friday.

Nunez, 26, has appeared in a total of 10 MLB games, something he accomplished in 2025. He pitched for the San Diego Padres and the A’s during that span, turning in a 7.11 ERA. So far in 2026, Nunez has turned in a 4.61 ERA in 12 outings at the minor league level, as he has pitched between Double-A and Triple-A.

Pitching depth never hurts to have. The O’s are hopeful that Nunez can make an impact at some point this season.

Overall, the O’s hold a 20-24 record. They are currently in third place in the American League East standings. Baltimore is nine games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East.

The Orioles have not played up to their expectations. Nevertheless, it is early in the ’26 campaign and anything can happen. The Orioles will attempt to turn things around on Friday night against the Washington Nationals at 6:45 PM EST.
