The Baltimore Orioles in 2025 have struggled. After going 91-71 in the 2024 season, they have fallen off this year in producing that same high-level play. They currently have a record of 43-52 and rank dead last in a tough American League East division. Pitching is at the forefront at the reasons for their down season.
The Orioles currently have the fourth highest team ERA in the majors, 4.92. The bullpen has not been consistent, nor have the starters. And although the Orioles did not address this problem right away in the 2025 MLB Draft, they eventually did with their fifth selection.

With the 58th overall pick the Orioles selected Michigan State Pitcher Joseph Dzierwa. He is listed at 6'8" and is coming off of his best year pitching for the Spartans. In his freshman season he posted a 4.67 ERA, this past season in his junior year he posted a 1.42 ERA over 118.2 innings. This guy has crazy high potential and could be a piece of the Orioles pitching puzzle one day.

With the Orioles next pick at No. 69, they selected another giant pitcher, JT Quinn from the University of Georgia. The right hander stands at 6'6" and like Dzierwa is coming off of his best college season. After having a 6.83 ERA in his freshman year for Ole Miss, he had a 2.75 ERA in his junior year with the Bulldogs. He has a deadly pitch mix, and if his game continues to trend upwards, he like Dzierwa could help solve some of the Orioles pitching problems in the future.
