The Baltimore Orioles announced they have placed pitcher Cade Povich on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow inflammation. The team also recalled pitcher Trey Gibson from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Povich on the roster.

During the Orioles' 4-3 defeat to the Miami Marlins on Thursday night, Povich began feeling discomfort on his left forearm. The 26-year-old pitcher completed three innings, throwing 43 pitches before being pulled from the game.

The Orioles have struggled with injuries this season, with Povich being the 17th player to find his way onto the injured list. Povich joins 11 other Oriole players who are still on the injured list.

Povich began the season playing with Triple-A Norfolk before being called up by the Orioles due to the number of injuries the team was dealing with at the time. With Povich being sent to the injured list, he'll likely spend some time playing at Triple-A Norfolk again this season while rehabbing from his injury.

Povich made four appearances for the Orioles this season, playing 19.1 innings and earning a 1-1 record. The left-handed pitcher recorded a 5.12 ERA, including 12 strikeouts and seven batters walked.

Povich is currently on his third season with the Orioles, making his MLB debut with the team in 2024. This is the second time he's been placed on the injured list, missing out a few weeks last year after dealing with left hip inflammation.

As Povich heads to the injured list, Gibson gets recalled and heads to the roster to fill in the gap. The right-handed pitcher is the team's number three prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

Gibson was signed by the Orioles after going undrafted in the 2023 MLB draft. He would spend a few seasons playing in the minor leagues before being assigned to Triple-A Norfolk at the start of the 2026 MLB season.

He impressed very quickly with his pitching abilities, striking out 25 batters across six starts and recording a 2-2 record. Gibson would be selected to the 40-man roster for the first time in his career on May 3, making his MLB debut against the New York Yankees.

In that game, Gibson pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits. Gibson will look to make the most of this second opportunity while Povich begins his road to recovery.

Although not much has been said about how long Povich will be out, expect the Orioles to utilize Gibson to his full potential. The team is third in the AL East and will look to make a playoff push after missing out on the postseason last year.
