The Baltimore Orioles biggest splash this past winter was adding first basemanPete Alonso on a five year $155 million deal. Baltimore has struggled for years to land top free agents despite aggressive pursuits, and Alonso finally changed that.

The Orioles are certainly a strong landing spot for him too, with a talented young core surrounding their new middle of the order anchor. Alonso arrives after seven seasons with the New York Mets, who were hesitant to offer him a long term extension despite him becoming the franchise leader in home runs.

The 31‑year‑old veteran is also coming off one of the best seasons of his career. In 2025, he posted a .272 batting average, .347 on‑base percentage, .871 OPS, 38 home runs and 126 RBIs across 162 games.

His start with the Orioles has been just as strong. Through his first six games, Alonso owns a .304/.385/.819 slash line, quickly establishing himself as the power threat Baltimore envisioned.

The organization has embraced him, and on Wednesday, Alonso and his wife, Haley, made the decision to give back to the community.

According to Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner, the couple will donate $10,000 to BARCS Animal Shelter and take a tour of the facility on April 14.

The donation will be made through the Alonso Foundation, a nonprofit established in 2020 by Pete and Haley Alonso to support charitable causes.

As Alonso gives back to his new community, it is clear he has found a home in Baltimore and is happy to be part of the organization.

The Orioles are counting on him to help lead them back to the MLB playoffs this season, and he appears to be the right player for the job as a former Rookie of the Year, five-time All‑Star and Silver Slugger Award winner.

With his early production and immediate impact off the field, Alonso is already showing why Baltimore made him the centerpiece of its offseason.
