Orioles select high school SS Jackson Holliday with No. 1 pick in MLB Draft

The Baltimore Orioles selected high school shortstop Jackson Holliday on Sunday night with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.

Holliday batted .685 with 17 home runs and 79 RBI in 40 games this past season for Stillwater High School.

The son of former major leaguer and seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday, Jackson was named the Baseball America's High School Player of the Year and the 2021-22 Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year.

A 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-hander, Holliday shows power at the plate while still growing into this frame. With a pro pedigree, he'll look to progress his game at Oklahoma State, where he's committed to playing for his uncle, manager Josh Holliday.

"Growing up around it has always been an important piece for me playing baseball," Holliday told the Oklahoman back in May. "Going to the clubhouses ever since I could walk was how it started.

"It's kind of just in my blood, I guess. I enjoy playing and I love the game."
