The Baltimore Orioles open their 2022 regular season in exactly two weeks. Fans learned recently, though, that one slugging fan favorite from the past five-plus years and the team's highly touted catching prospect may not be with the club for different reasons.
It was reported on Thursday that Baltimore may soon trade first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini. The Mancini news came less than 10 days following word that MLB's top prospect — catcher Adley Rutschman — would miss at least two to three weeks due to a triceps strain.
MLB.com's Zachary Silver provided an update on Rutschman on Friday.
Adley Rutschman has taken part in some receiving (catching) work, but still isn't doing anything to test his right arm, Brandon Hyde said. No throwing or hitting, but hopefully will restart in around a week. O's want to try and keep his legs fresh for whenever that comes.

Per The Athletic, the 24-year-old backstop was "in the hunt" to make the Orioles' Opening Day roster but most likely won't now due to the injury. Rutschman was selected by Baltimore with the first overall pick in the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft.
The Oregon St. product registered a .271/.392/.508 slash line in Double-A last season, while going for .312/.405/.490 with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.
