Our 2025 MLB Season Predictions

The 2025 MLB regular season has arrived. It’s the time of the year when hope springs for all 30 teams — but everyone knows only one team can win it all. So, what will happen in 2025? Obviously, a lot can change between now and October. But, it’s fun to play prognosticator. Here are our 2025 MLB regular season and postseason predictions.

MLB Regular Season Predictions for 2025

Let’s start with our predictions for the American League:

American League

  • AL East winner: Orioles (#2)
  • AL Central winner: Tigers (#3)
  • AL West winner: Rangers (#1)
  • AL Wild Cards: Royals (#4), Yankees (#5), Red Sox (#6)

The Orioles head into the 2025 season wounded, as Grayson Rodriguez and Gunnar Henderson won’t be available. Henderson shouldn’t be out long, while Rodriguez is a little different.

Still, it’s hard to think Baltimore won’t be competitive, even with a rotation that doesn’t look imposing on paper. The O’s still have a very deep lineup, one that could get even better if Jackson Holliday clicks during the regular season.

As for the AL Central, I don’t think the Tigers get enough love. Detroit has arguably the best pitcher in baseball (Tarik Skubal), a deep bullpen, and a young core that’s only getting better.

Lastly, the Rangers have questions to answer regarding their pitching staff. Can Jacob deGrom stay healthy? What about the bullpen, which will look very different in 2025? One thing I do know is that the Rangers have a lot of firepower in the lineup. They have a couple of former 30-home run hitters in Jake Burger and Corey Seager. Plus, Wyatt Langford, who broke through last September.

For the AL Wild Card spots, sleep on Aaron Judge and Bobby Witt Jr. at your own peril. Particularly Judge and the Yankees, who have significant injuries but nonetheless a good rotation and potential emerging bats around him.

Now, let’s move to our National League predictions:

National League

  • NL East winner: Braves (#2)
  • NL Central winner: Reds (#3)
  • NL West winner: Dodgers (#1)
  • NL Wild Cards: Phillies (#4), Mets (#5), Padres (#6)

The NL East should be extremely interesting to watch in 2025. Atlanta’s getting Ronald Acuna Jr. and Spencer Strider back shortly in 2025, while the Mets have Juan Soto in their stacked lineup. The Phillies, meanwhile, are the defending champions of the division.

The Mets’ pitching staff is a concern, though. And the Braves, when that team has been healthy, have been rather tough to take down in the regular season.

Moving to the NL Central, that division is also wide open. The Reds have a new manager, former Red Sox and Guardians boss Terry Francona, plus some of the most exciting talents in the league. Hunter Greene broke through in 2024, while Elly De La Cruz became a sensation. Cincinnati is healthier heading into 2025, and if that holds, I like the Reds over the Cubs and Brewers.

Lastly, the Dodgers are the clear favorites for the NL West. It’s hard to envision Los Angeles not winning the division.

MLB Postseason Predictions for 2025

Now, for our MLB postseason predictions:

  • AL Wild Card Round: Red Sox def. Tigers, Royals def. Yankees
  • NL Wild Card Round: Mets def. Phillies, Padres def. Reds
  • NLDS: Dodgers def. Padres, Braves def. Mets
  • ALDS: Red Sox def. Rangers, Orioles def. Royals
  • NLCS: Dodgers def. Braves
  • ALCS: Orioles def. Red Sox
  • World Series: Dodgers def. Orioles

The Red Sox have the pieces for a “Cinderella” run. Boston has a bonafide ace, a strong lineup, and youngsters who could make an immediate impact in 2025. However, I’ll go with the Orioles — a team due for success — to finally break through in October.

And for the NL — and the Majors as a whole — it’ll take a lot for any team to unseat the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
