The 2024 San Diego Padres will look a bit different, and one of their new elements consists of a new manager, Mike Shildt.
Shildt was hired earlier last week and is set to bring new life to San Diego. And he expressed that in his introduction press conference. Along with that, joy and excitement came praise of the fanbase. Following the press conference, Shildt joined the MLB Network for a series of questions, praising his new fanbase in the process.
“Our fans are fantastic. This place rocks. This atmosphere is unbelievable. It’s loud, it’s a party, it’s a passionate group that loves their team.”

"Functional teams win... Clearly, I'm here for a reason."

Shildt comes from another passionate fanbase in the St. Louis Cardinals, where he managed from 2018-2021. The Cardinals have a long history of success and a devoted fanbase, so for Shildt to speak so highly of the Friars fanbase and their ability to bring the noise says a lot.
San Diego recorded the most sellouts this past season in their franchise history. Although the season didn't go as planned, it shows how far they've come for fellow San Diegans to show up to the beautiful Petco Park night in and night out.
Shildt has a ton of work to do, but there is no denying the talent in his roster and what they're capable of doing to make some noise for the 2024 season.
