The Milwaukee Brewers matched their season high winning streak of 11 games with a dominating 14-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates tend not to have any run support for Cy Young frontrunner, Paul Skenes, but once again the Brewers got the best of the 23-year-old.
Skenes fell to 7-9 despite leading the MLB with his 2.13 ERA. David Peterson is next on the ERA leaderboard with that few number of wins despite sitting No. 16 with his 2.98 ERA. Only three pitchers in the top 15 in ERA have fewer than 10 wins.
Regardless, Skenes knows the Brewers have been his kryptonite. The Pirates' ace has allowed eight earned runs in eight innings against the Crew in his last two starts.
In between those two starts he had only allowed six earned runs. Skenes' numbers from June 25 to August 12 were nothing short of phenomenal, but he praised Milwaukee despite his rough outing.
"They're obviously hot right now," Skenes said, according to MLB.com's Rich Rovito. "I got in positions that weren’t very advantageous to me to where I had to be perfect, and I didn’t have my best stuff. I couldn’t really count on any singular pitch to be executed and get guys out."
Skenes continued, "I had some 3-2 pitches that caught too much of the plate and didn’t execute two-strike pitches as well as I should have. They did a good job capitalizing on it."

Paul Skenes vs. everyone else: 1.75 ERA
A leadoff home run for Sal Frelick allowed the Brewers to pick up right where they had left off. They're the first NL team since 2017 to have multiple 10+ game winning streaks in the same season. At this point, it seems like nothing is going to slow them down.
Pittsburgh fell to 51-70 while Milwaukee is now 31 games over .500. The Brewers have one more matchup against the Pirates before enjoying Thursday off. From there, they'll play eight games on the road in the next seven days.
The bats didn't come alive for the Pirates as they had just four hits compared to the Brewers' 15. Skenes was held to his shortest outing, four innings, since his last start against Milwaukee on June 25.
It's the first loss for the LSU graduate since July 11 when he fell to the Minnesota twins ahead of the All-Star game. There's no doubt Skenes made the Pirates proud in that game which saw him strike out two batters in 14 pitches.
