The New York Mets have been one of the more intriguing teams this season and first baseman Pete Alonso has been one of the top hitters in the sport. History was made on Tuesday night as he stepped into the batter’s box in the third inning and launched a home run into the bullpen in right-center field. Let’s take a deeper dive into what happened and where Pete Alonso ranks among New York Mets sluggers.

Pete Alonso Makes New York Mets History

The New York Mets are competing for a playoff spot in a tough National League and need to win games after a cold stretch. One player who has needed to step up was first baseman Pete Alonso and he was able to create history in Queens. In the bottom of the third inning with a runner on first base and two outs, Alonso came to the plate and launched his 27th home run of the season. This broke a tie with Darryl Strawberry for most home runs in the franchise’s history.

That long fly-ball was the 253rd career home run for Pete Alonso and continues to showcase the ability to be a threat at the plate.
