Philadelphia Phillies Starting Pitcher Zack Wheeler had a start for the ages this afternoon at home against the Cincinnati Reds. He surrendered one hit over 9 innings and punched out 12. The lone hit he surrendered was a solo home run to Austin Hays.
It looked like Wheeler would walk away with a no-decision until Second Baseman Bryson Stott hit a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the 8th to clinch the 3-1 victory. It has been a great first half of the regular season for the starting pitcher. He is fourth in the league in wins, fifth in ERA, tied for second in strikeouts, and second in WHIP. Will the ace continue pitching at such a high level?

Wheeler debuted with the New York Mets in 2013. While he showed potential in New York, he has come into his own during his six-year tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies. He is a two-time All-Star and won a Gold Glove in 2023. He also has three top-10 finishes in Cy Young voting, including two second-place finishes.
The final start for Wheeler before the All-Star break is on the road against the San Diego Padres on July 12. Philadelphia’s ace has a strong case to be named the National League’s starter for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. Whether he gets the nod or not, he has a great chance to win the NL Cy Young Award.
