Phillies' Aaron Nola ties Tom Seaver with 10 consecutive strikeouts

And then there were two.

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola made history during Friday's opening game of a doubleheader against the New York Mets by notching 10 consecutive strikeouts to tie a record set by Mets legend and Hall of Famer Tom Seaver in April 1970:

Nola had an opportunity to set a record, but slugger Pete Alonso was having none of it:

Coincidentally, Mets ace and National League Most Valuable Player candidate Jacob deGrom recorded nine straight strikeouts in a dominant performance at the Colorado Rockies on April 17:

Mets fans now find themselves hoping deGrom will hit 11 strikeouts in a row at some point down the road to give the franchise sole possession of the record once more.
