And then there were two.
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola made history during Friday's opening game of a doubleheader against the New York Mets by notching 10 consecutive strikeouts to tie a record set by Mets legend and Hall of Famer Tom Seaver in April 1970:
Aaron Nola strikes out Michael Conforto to tie Tom Seaver for the MLB record for most consecutive strikeouts at 10. Seaver did it April 22, 1970, vs. Padres.

Tom Seaver: Last 10 outs were strikeouts….Aaron Nola: First 10 outs were strikeouts….Today: All 10 Mets who struck out wore a Tom Seaver 41 patch on their sleeve…because baseball! https://t.co/P0Eqdjzapf

Coincidentally, Mets ace and National League Most Valuable Player candidate Jacob deGrom recorded nine straight strikeouts in a dominant performance at the Colorado Rockies on April 17:
Mets fans now find themselves hoping deGrom will hit 11 strikeouts in a row at some point down the road to give the franchise sole possession of the record once more.
