The Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to an early-season trade involving outfielder Steward Berroa. The Phillies announced the move on Wednesday ahead of their game against the San Francisco Giants.

“The Phillies have acquired outfielder Steward Berroa from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room for Berroa on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Yoniel Curet was designated for assignment.”

Berroa does not have much service time, but he has seen some moments go positively in his short career with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Brew Crew. The 26-year-old has seven career hits, including one double, one RBI, eight walks, and seven stolen bases, and has a career WAR of 0.5. His issues have been strikeouts as he has 16 K’s in 42 at-bats in his career. Berroa has excelled in the field, playing all three outfield positions. He owns a career 1.000 fielding percentage, with two assists and a career DWAR of 0.4.

Yoniel Curet was DFA’d by the Phillies. Curet has yet to debut in the majors but has been solid in the minor leagues.

Earlier on Wednesday, manager Rob Thomson shared an update on JT Realmuto’s foot injury after he left the game on Tuesday.

“J.T. Realmuto is pretty sore still, Rob Thomson said. The backup catcher today is … probably Dylan Moore? This is my chance to soft launch an Emergency Third Catcher designated for every big-league city. How cool would that be,” Gelb wrote on X.
