The Philadelphia Phillies have yet to make a significant move, but this offseason figures to be a pivotal one in determining the future of the franchise. The team has enjoyed plenty of regular season success, winning the NL East division title in back-to-back years, yet that momentum has not carried into October. Both seasons ended in disappointment, with the Phillies knocked out in the divisional round.
As a result, the future of several longtime players is uncertain, including third baseman Alec Bohm, who just endured one of the toughest years of his career.
The 29-year-old has spent his entire career in Philadelphia since being selected third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. Injuries hampered him in 2025, and while he managed to appear in 120 games, his production was underwhelming.
Bohm posted a .287 batting average, .331 on-base percentage, .741 OPS, 11 home runs and 59 RBIs, numbers that fell short of expectations.
As the Phillies weigh their plan and consider how shaking up the roster could lead to more success, Bohm’s status with the team remains in doubt. During last offseason his name surfaced in trade rumors, but he ultimately stayed put.
This winter, however, his chances of being moved appear much higher than any other player on the roster according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan. On Tuesday, Passan said Bohm "is as good as gone" if Philadelphia lands third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency. He added, "In a winter of change in Philadelphia, Bohm is among the likeliest of Phillies not to return."
This comes after last month’s report from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, who said the Phillies could trade Bohm and target Bregman this offseason. It is a possibility that has been floated since the season ended, and one Passan again reiterated in his latest article. He added that it’s a coin toss at this point whether Bohm continues manning the hot corner for Philadelphia or another organization.

Bohm remains a strong candidate under a team-friendly deal if he is moved, owed only $10 million next year before hitting unrestricted free agency.
Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber, who finished second in National League MVP voting in 2025, remains the top priority, but the two sides are still far apart on a deal despite mutual interest. If Schwarber departs, Bregman could be another superstar addition to slot alongside Bryce Harper and Trea Turner.
Last season with the Boston Red Sox, Bregman posted a .273 batting average, .360 on-base percentage, .821 OPS, 18 home runs and 62 RBIs across 114 games.
The decisions made this offseason will shape whether the Phillies can finally turn regular season success into a deeper postseason run.
