Phillies Announce Alec Bohm News on Friday

As the Philadelphia Phillies prepare for the 2026 season, the front office is ready to adjust the core as necessary to finally get over the hump. Despite back-to-back NL East division titles, the Phillies have failed to reach the NLCS in both years.

One name that has surfaced as a possible trade candidate this offseason is third baseman Alec Bohm. The 29-year-old has been on the Phillies’ big-league roster for the past six seasons after being selected third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft.

Bohm’s production has trended downward at the plate, and in 120 games during the 2025 season he posted a .287 batting average, .331 on-base percentage, .741 OPS, 11 home runs and 59 RBIs.

On Friday, the Phillies announced that they tendered Bohm a contract for the 2026 season along with several other roster moves.

“The Phillies made the following roster moves: Agreed to terms on contracts for the 2026 season with catchers Rafael Marchán and Garrett Stubbs. Tendered contracts to seven arbitration-eligible players: infielders Alec Bohm, Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott, outfielder Brandon Marsh, right-hander Jhoan Duran and left-handers Tanner Banks and Jesús Luzardo. The club did not tender contracts to right-handers Michael Mercado and Daniel Robert,” the team wrote on X.

Being tendered a contract means the Phillies chose to keep Bohm under club control for 2026 rather than letting him hit free agency. Next season will mark his final year of arbitration before he becomes eligible for free agency, giving the front office a decision point on whether to commit long-term or explore other options.

While tendering him secures his spot for now, the Phillies could still trade Bohm if they believe it helps reshape the roster. He has the ability to be an effective piece in the lineup for Philadelphia. Bohm has earned one All-Star selection and finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2020. However, he has failed to be a consistent option and his future with the Phillies is no longer guaranteed.

For Philadelphia, the decision on Bohm will be a key storyline this winter. The front office must balance patience with urgency, knowing the roster needs upgrades to contend deeper into October. Whether Bohm remains part of that plan or becomes trade capital, his status will shape the Phillies’ path forward.
