The Philadelphia Phillies are gearing up for the 2026 MLB season, looking to break through in the playoffs after back-to-back early exits.
The front office appears willing to move on from familiar faces, as it is widely expected that outfielder Nick Castellanos will be traded and third baseman Alec Bohm’s spot in the lineup is not guaranteed.
Bohm's name has circulated in trade rumors for quite some time, but now, entering the final year of team control before unrestricted free agency, his value is at an all-time low.
Last season was a down year for Bohm, as injuries limited his availability. The 29-year-old posted a .287 batting average, .331 on-base percentage and .741 OPS with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs across 120 games.
As the 2026 season approached, his salary for that final year under team control had yet to be resolved. On Thursday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reported that Bohm and the Phillies reached an agreement, settling at $10.2 million to avoid arbitration.
Arbitration occurs when an eligible player and team cannot agree on salary. In that case, an arbiter steps in to settle the dispute by choosing one side’s figure. In Bohm’s case, this process was avoided because he and the Phillies agreed on a deal before reaching that stage.
Shortly after, Philadelphia officially announced it agreed to one-year contracts with Bohm and multiple other key players, including left-hander Jesus Luzardo and closer Jhoan Duran, ahead of the 2026 season.
The Phillies have agreed to one-year contracts and avoided arbitration with pitchers Tanner Banks, Jhoan Duran and Jesús Luzardo, infielders Alec Bohm, Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott and outfielder Brandon Marsh.

Even with the deal in place, Bohm’s future in Philadelphia remains uncertain. The Phillies could still trade him, as the club has been linked to free agent third baseman Alex Bregman and infielder Bo Bichette, making it clear that this agreement does not guarantee his long-term role.
Bohm is a homegrown player, drafted third overall by the Phillies in the 2018 MLB Draft, and he has spent his entire six-year career with the organization.
A one-time All-Star, he remains a familiar face to fans, but the front office may decide that upgrading at third base is necessary to push the team deeper into October.
