Third baseman Alec Bohm is in his sixth season as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies after being selected third overall by the organization in the 2018 MLB Draft.

The 28-year-old made his big-league debut in the 2020 pandemic-shortened season and had an excellent year, finishing second in NL Rookie of the Year voting. Over 44 games, he posted a .338 batting average and an .881 OPS—both of which remain career bests.

Since then, Bohm has not been able to replicate that production over the course of a full season, but he has remained an offensive threat, and last year he made his first All-Star appearance.

During Saturday’s 5–4 loss against the San Diego Padres, Bohm was removed from the game in the bottom of the fourth inning because of a left rib-cage contusion after being struck by a pitch.

Afterward, during the postgame, manager Rob Thomson announced that the third baseman is pretty sore and doubts he’ll play tomorrow. He said he thought the hit-by-pitch impacted his swing in the third inning and noted that Bohm isn’t getting an MRI at this point.

In 90 games this season, Bohm has eight home runs, 42 RBIs, a .282 batting average and a .723 OPS, continuing to contribute power and consistency when healthy.

After a second straight loss to the Padres on Saturday, the Phillies now find themselves back in second place in the NL East with a 54-41 record. They slipped behind the New York Mets, who improved to 55-41 with a win over the Kansas City Royals.
