Bryce Harper’s first seven seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies have been impressive, but he still remains in search of his first career World Series title.

As he enters the final six years of his massive 13‑year, $330 million contract, he has been publicly questioned by Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski about whether he can still be an elite player in 2026.

Last year, the 33‑year‑old posted a .261 batting average, .357 on‑base percentage, .844 OPS, 27 home runs and 75 RBIs across 132 games. While Harper’s numbers were still strong, they did not quite match the production he has shown in the past as a former two‑time National League MVP, eight‑time All‑Star and four‑time Silver Slugger.

With concerns mounting and the added pressure of leading a Phillies team that has fallen short in October in back‑to‑back seasons, this is a pivotal year for Harper. However, over the past two weeks he had not been with the Phillies at spring training.

Instead, Harper took his talents to the World Baseball Classic, suiting up for Team USA for the first time after accepting the invitation.

Harper struggled during pool play, but in the final he momentarily revived Team USA’s hopes of winning gold. In the bottom of the eighth inning against Venezuela, he delivered a game‑tying home run that electrified the crowd. Team USA then allowed a run in the top of the ninth and ultimately fell short.

With the WBC over, Harper’s focus has shifted back to the Phillies and the upcoming season with Opening Day just one week away. He did not return to action over the past two days, which was expected given his travel schedule.

On Friday, the Phillies officially announced Harper’s return. “Harper, Schwarber and Sanchez are back from the WBC!” the team wrote on X.

Harper was slotted in at first base and hitting third in the batting order. His return is important because the Phillies need their franchise superstar fully locked in as they attempt to win a third start NL East division title.

With Harper now back in camp, Philadelphia can finally begin shaping the lineup around the player they expect to anchor their championship push.
