Kyle Schwarber is set to hit unrestricted free agency for the first time in four years. The 32-year-old left-handed slugger fulfilled the entirety of his four-year, $79 million contract signed ahead of the 2022 season with the Philadelphia Phillies. Schwarber’s deal may go down as one of the most valuable in Phillies franchise history. Over that span, he earned two All-Star selections, led the National League in home runs twice and finished top 20 in NL MVP voting in each of his first three seasons with the 2025 MVP results still to come.
He capped off his final year in Philadelphia with his best season yet, posting a .240 batting average, .365 on-base percentage, .928 OPS, an NL-leading 56 home runs and an MLB-best 132 RBIs while playing all 162 games for the first time in his career.
As Schwarber prepares to field offers and make a pivotal decision about his future, he received a notable recognition. Louisville Slugger announced the National League finalists for the 2025 Silver Slugger Award, naming Schwarber as one of three designated hitter candidates alongside Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Phillies shared the news on X, congratulating both Schwarber and his teammate, shortstop Trea Turner. “Kyle and Trea are Silver Slugger Award finalists,” the team wrote. If Schwarber wins, it would be the second Silver Slugger Award of his career.
Silver Slugger finalists and winners are chosen through a vote by National League managers and coaches, with each team casting four ballots. Selections are based on a mix of offensive statistics and overall impressions of a player’s offensive impact.

Schwarber’s season in Philadelphia ended in disappointment when the Phillies were defeated in the NLDS by the Dodgers, yet his final numbers were remarkable. Schwarber effortlessly launched home runs at the top of Philadelphia’s order, and his impact was undeniable. While many other stars on the Phillies missed time, Schwarber did not and appeared in every game.
The Phillies marked Schwarber’s fourth organization in the big leagues, following stints with the Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox. Across all four teams, he has consistently delivered power, durability and postseason experience. As he enters free agency, Schwarber remains one of the most productive hitters in baseball and a proven asset for any contender.
