After two weeks of trying to fight off a trip to the injured list, the Phillies' star first baseman finally gave in.
Bryce Harper was placed on the 10-day IL Saturday morning, retroactive to Friday, June 6th, with right wrist inflammation. Harper previously missed five games after being hit in his right elbow. After returning for three in Toronto, where he went 1-for-11 with five strikeouts, he again sat out for the opening game in Pittsburgh.
Philly manager Rob Thomson previously said that any hand or wrist discomfort concerns him and that they would take the time to make sure Harper gets right.

Harper's absence was a big blow during Philly's recent skid - they lost five of six without him collectively while averaging under four runs per game - and now they'll have to figure out how to get by for at least eight more. He'd be eligible to return on June 16th, when the Phillies start a road trip against the Miami Marlins.
Harper is hitting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBI, and an .814 OPS in 2025. Most of his offensive stats only trail Kyle Schwarber on the Phillies. He's also been an excellent defensive first baseman.
Harper joins right-handed starter Aaron Nola as a regular on the injured list. Nola has been out since late May with an ankle sprain and recently faced a setback in his recovery. For Philly's sake, they'll hope that Bryce has better luck returning quickly.
The Phillies continue their series against the Pirates this afternoon at 4:05 PM EST. Ranger Suárez is on the mound and has been one of the few bright spots lately, as the offense sputters and the bullpen continues to struggle.
