The Philadelphia Phillies have gotten off to a lukewarm start in 2025. Through the first 31 games, the Phillies have compiled a 17-14 record.
After a 2024 season that saw them go 95-67 and win the NL East division race by six games, it's not quite the start that the team was hoping for in 2025.
Despite the slow start as a team, star slugger Kyle Schwarber has been playing at an extremely high level. He has been a constant source of offense for Philadelphia through the first part of the schedule.
In 31 games played, the 32-year-old power bat has hit nine home runs, driven in 23 RBI's, and compiled a slash line of .239/.394/.523.
As has been the case throughout his entire career, Schwarber has been a big-time power bat for the Phillies. Last season, he clubbed 38 home runs, in 2023 he hit 47 home runs, and in 2022 he smashed 46 home runs. He is well on his way to another big season in 2025.
Hunter Mulholland of Newsweek has taken a look at Schwarber's future. Should Philadelphia not work out an extension with him, Mulholland has mentioned an intriguing team who could swoop in and steal him away.
He believes the Toronto Blue Jays could be a team to watch very closely.
"The Toronto Blue Jays have missed out on plenty of high-value free agents the past two seasons, and with their link to Pete Alonso last winter, Schwarber may be at the top of their list to bring north of the border," he wrote.
If he does hit the open market this offseason, Schwarber will likely be sought after by multiple different teams. He has a dangerous bat and there are quite a few lineups who could use the power that he brings to the diamond. The Blue Jays are certainly one of them.
