It was a tough day for Tommy Henry, who allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings to the Philadelphia Phillies’ star-studded lineup in a 12-1 loss. Henry found himself trailing 2-0 just five batters into his start. With the Phillies establishing an early lead in the game, Arizona had an uphill battle the rest of the way.
The big damage against Henry came in the third inning. Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm teed off for back-to-back home runs, pushing the Phillies lead to five. Henry and the Diamondbacks bullpen failed to staunch the bleeding, as Philadelphia scored in six of their eight trips to the plate. They outhit Arizona 14 to 2, slugging four home runs on the day.
With Zac Gallen nearing a return, it will be interesting to see if Tommy Henry gets another turn through the rotation first.
Offensively, they were unable to solve Zack Wheeler. Wheeler set down the first 12 hitters before hitting Christian Walker with a pitch. Singles by Jake McCarthy and Tucker Barnhart, the Diamondbacks’ only two hits in the game, plated Walker for Arizona’s only run. That would be the only inning there were any runners on base.
Tucker Barnhart, the starting catcher for the game, ended up pitching the last inning of the game for the Diamondbacks. Barnhart allowed four hits, including a two-run home run to David Dahl.
Despite the blowout, the Diamondbacks still have an opportunity to win the series in the rubber match. Right-hander Slade Cecconi (2-5, 5.90 ERA) takes the mound, coming off the best start of his career Tuesday night vs. Washington. The Phillies will send out left-hander Cristopher Sánchez (4-3, 2.91 ERA). First pitch at Citizens Bank Park will be at 8:35 A.M. MST. The game will be streamed to Roku TV, so make sure to check out this FAQ released by MLB for how you can watch.
