Mike Trout is, by every objective and subjective measure, one of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history.
Nevertheless, as much individual success as he's had and as much money as he's made, his lack of postseason success will always be a stain on his legacy. That's why, even now that he's in the back end of his prime, he continues to be tangled up in trade rumors, with the latest buzz tying him to the Philadelphia Phillies.
However, as much as the Phillies desperately need some right-handed hitting, USA Today insider Bob Nightengale just doesn't see that happening.
“The Phillies’ right-handed hitters are a mess, hitting a major-league low .217 with a .315 on-base percentage and .585 OPS,” Nightengale wrote. “They will be on the lookout for a right-handed hitter at the trade deadline, but no, Mike Trout will not be coming to Philadelphia. He still is owed $148.46 million after this season, and has a full no-trade clause.”
Trout is having a down year by his standards. He's hitting just .241 with a .910 OPS, 31 RBI and 14 home runs. Then again, he'd still be an offensive upgrade for the Phillies. They're getting the bulk of their offensive production from Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Brandon Marsh, three lefties.
That said, after spending his entire career with the bottom-feeding Los Angeles Angels, it's hard to believe the future Hall of Famer would ever consider waiving his no-trade clause to join another organization at this point in his career.
