It has been a good stretch of late for the Philadelphia Phillies, and the team is moving right along toward October baseball.

Despite dropping the first series of their West Coast trip to the Seattle Mariners, the Phillies are in a good spot in the National League Wild Card picture, and chasing down the Atlanta Braves in the NL East isn’t impossible.

As the road trip continues, they will have a favorable matchup coming up against the Los Angeles Angels. Philadelphia is a veteran squad that believes in their ability to win now.

With years of success, the team has been very aggressive at the deadline, trying to find the missing piece to help them win a title. They have obviously come up short, and that has had a major impact on the state of their farm system.

Kiley McDaniel of ESPN recently ranked the top 30 farm systems in baseball, and the results for Philadelphia were not good. The Phillies came in ranked 28th, highlighting a major concern.

It doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to see Philadelphia ranked poorly. This is a team that has parted ways with a lot of prospects in recent years, trying to improve and get a World Series win.

Furthermore, the group was strong at the beginning of the season when both Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford were in the system. With both of those players not being in the majors, it was two significant blows to the prospect pool.

Also, Aidan Miller was a name that figured to have a chance to make an impact for the team at some point this year. However, a back injury has held him out, and that has been a significant blow for the team as well.

While there are some negatives for how the farm system is being viewed, there are some positives as well. Gage Wood has emerged as the top prospect in the system, and the Phillies not having to move him at the deadline was certainly a good thing.

Furthermore, the development of Francisco Renteria has also been a nice boost for the system. Renteria very well could be a Top 100 prospect next year, and he will be a name to watch.

Overall, while the system might not be in the best of shape, the Phillies do have the financial ability to overcome that through free agency.
