Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto had a scary situation unfold during the ninth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays. On a pitch from Jordan Romano, the batter fouled it off, right into Realmuto's groin. Afterwards, he struggled to walk off the field and was pulled from the game.
One day later, Realmuto sent out a message on his injury scare and how he's feeling afterwards. In a post on Twitter/X from Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Realmuto said he's "Still intact," following the injury scare.
“Still intact,” Realmuto said. He is available in an emergency today. He hopes to miss only one game. They’ll see how he feels in Pittsburgh.

The injury, which knocked Realmuto out of the game, will also keep him out of the series finale against the Blue Jays. Backup catcher Rafael Marchan will fill in for Realmuto, and he'll catch starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo.
Fortunately, Realmuto is also available in case of an emergency on Thursday, June 5th. Being able to come in for such a situation, likely if Marchan gets hurt, is a good sign that Realmuto will be okay going forward.
He is likely not to play in the series finale against the Blue Jays, and instead will hopefully be ready for their trip back south to face the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road.
Realmuto is batting .226 on the year, .040 points lower than his 2024 season total. He's struggled at the plate, especially with his inability to stop grounding into double plays. He has 10 double-play balls in 2025, which is three shy of his career high across his 12-year career.
While he's struggled at the plate, he still has been great at catching baserunners. Realmuto has the best pop time in baseball according to Baseball Savant.
After his painful-looking injury, Realmuto is expected to just miss one game. Considering the aftermath, it's a decent outcome for Realmuto. Machan gets a start in his place against the Blue Jays, as the Phillies look to win the series up in Toronto.
