Third baseman Alec Bohm is in his sixth MLB season with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 28-year-old was selected third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft out of Wichita State University and debuted for the Phillies’ big-league roster in 2020.
Over 44 games in the pandemic-shortened season, Bohm impressed: he batted .338 with an .881 OPS and finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting.
Although he has yet to replicate those numbers since then, he has established himself as an offensive threat in the middle of the Phillies’ lineup, earning his first All-Star appearance in 2024.
Bohm was diagnosed with a bruised left rib cage after being hit by a pitch during a July 12 game against the San Diego Padres and was removed in the fourth inning. He initially stayed in the game after being drilled in the second inning but was visibly in pain and later replaced by Edmundo Sosa.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Bohm was sore postgame and suggested the injury may have affected his swing, leading to him sitting out the series finale before the All-Star break.
After six days off, the Phillies slotted their third baseman back into the cleanup spot before Friday’s series opener against the Los Angeles Angels.

Through 91 games this season, Bohm is batting .281 with a .723 OPS, adding eight home runs and 42 RBIs.
Philadelphia, at 55–41 and perched atop the NL East, faces a half-game challenge from the New York Mets, making Bohm’s health and availability crucial in a fiercely competitive divisional race.
