Phillies Make Brandon Marsh Announcement Amid Injuries

The Philadelphia Phillies are getting one of their regular outfielders back.

Brandon Marsh, who has been on the injured list since April 17th with a right hamstring strain, has been activated and will be active for Saturday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team announced the move via social media.

Marsh played six rehab games with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, batting .300 with an opposite field home run, six RBI, four walks, and eight strikeouts. He did not make any errors in his 36 innings in center field.

In a corresponding move, outfielder Cal Stevenson has been sent back down to Lehigh Valley. Stevenson appeared in five games (one start) and hit 2-for-8 with an RBI and two strikeouts.

Marsh was struggling mightily in the majors this season, hitting a mere .095 and going 31 straight at bats without a hit before his injury. The Phillies will hope his bat can wake up and contribute some of the production he posted the past two-plus seasons with the team.

In Marsh's absence, Johan Rojas has been excelling in center field. Rojas started 14 of the last 15 games, going 14-for-44 (.318) with eight runs scored, seven RBI, three stolen bases, and a home run. He's also made several great defensive plays, including one last night.

There is a right-handed pitcher (Brandon Pfaadt) on the mound tonight for Arizona tonight, so it's possible that Marsh will make his return to the starting lineup against the type of arm he's had more success against. If not, he'd be available off the bench for manager Rob Thomson.
