It exploded in popularity around 2011, inspiring viral stories of camaraderie and conquest at ballparks nationwide.

A 2024 Minnesota challenge even went viral on TikTok, highlighting the ritual’s timeless appeal.

Back in July, retired NFL superstar J.J. Watt took on the challenge during a Milwaukee Brewers game and dominated, chronicling his completion in just 5.5 innings.

Philly’s downsized edition has sparked hilarious backlash on X, with fans decrying “cold hot dogs by the second inning” and dubbing it a “warmup” for true die-hards.
