Nola is coming off of what was statistically the worst start of his major league career. Daniel Robert has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Robert joining the Phillies is a temporary move. Nola has a 1-7 record with a 6.16 ERA and is struggling this season through nine starts. Additionally, Nola has a 5.03 FIP and a 3.25 K/BB rate this season. Nola has a career-worst 1.99 HR/9 allowed rate this season as well. Opposing batters have a .294 average and a .348 BABIP against Nola this season. Nola has a 1.51 WHIP this season.
Phillies pitching prospect Mick Abel will make his major league debut on May 18. The team announced that Abel will return to Triple-A afterwards and not make any additional major league starts at this time. According to the team, Taijuan Walker will re-join the rotation until Nola returns from the injured list. Abel has a 5-2 record with a 2.53 ERA in eight minor league starts this season. In addition, Abel has a 3.73 FIP and a 2.68 K/BB rate this year. Abel has a 0.78 HR/9 allowed rate in Triple-A this season. Opposing batters have a .215 average and a .282 BABIP against Abel in the minor leagues this season.
