Phillies Predicted to Cut Ties With Mick Abel and Two More MLB Players for Alex Bregman

The Philadelphia Phillies have played well over the past few weeks, now sitting in first place in the loaded National League East.

However, the Phillies still need more, and their recent 4-6 stretch shows that. If the Phillies continue to swing the bat at this type of level, they shouldn't expect much to change. There have been times when the offense has proven to be one of the best in baseball, and others when they strike out too much and simply can't get anything done.

But adding a star might be expensive, and in a recent trade proposal from Bleacher Report, it'd be very expensive. Bleacher Report proposed the idea of the Phillies trading for Alex Bregman, with them trading three players in return.

“Trade Proposal: Philadelphia Phillies get 3B Alex Bregman; Boston Red Sox get RHP Taijuan Walker, 3B Alec Bohm, RHP Mick Abel.

“With $27 million still owed to him, Walker is in this proposal to dull the impact of the luxury-tax hit of adding Bregman for the Phillies. Bohm is included because, honestly, it's probably time for him to have a change of scenery,” they wrote.

“In Abel, Boston would also get a pitcher it could slot right into a rotation that has had issues outside of Garrett Crochet. The Red Sox like big stuff, and he can throw 99 with a nasty curveball.”

Three big league players for Bregman seems like a ton, but this might not even get the job done for the Boston Red Sox.

It remains uncertain if the Red Sox plan to sell, but they’re 43-45 and six games out in the American League East. They've gone 3-7 over their last 10 games, so things aren't exactly trending in the right direction.
