Phillies Predicted to Cut Ties With No. 4 Prospect Ahead of Trade Deadline

How creative will the Philadelphia Phillies get at the trade deadline? If Dave Dombrowski wants to put together the best possible roster, it'll likely require him to trade some of his top prospects.

Among that is Eduardo Tait, a catcher who is predicted to be called up in 2028 and is ranked the No. 4 prospect in the Phillies system, according to MLB.com.

At only 18 years old, the youngster has accomplished everything he possibly can throughout his young professional career.

He made his professional debut in 2023 in rookie ball, hitting .331 with three home runs.

In 2024, Tait was promoted to Single-A, where he hit .269 with five home runs in 104 at-bats. Playing the entire season in Single-A this year, the left-handed hitter is slashing .262/.333/.458 with nine home runs in 225 at-bats.

He's continued to get better, and that should entice teams around the league if the Phillies are looking to make a splash.

When searching for potential trade options on the Phillies, The Athletic recently predicted that he'd be one of the three players that Philadelphia could cut ties with, perhaps the biggest name on the list.

“My unscientific ranking: 1. Mick Abel 2. Eduardo Tait 3. Jean Cabrera,” they wrote.

Mick Abel is a very good arm, and there's no question about that, but Tait has incredible potential.

There's also an argument to be made that he'll eventually replace JT Realmuto, despite Realmuto hitting free agency this offseason and Tait still being a few years away from the show.

However, the Phillies are also in a position to win a World Series, and they absolutely shouldn't waste that by hugging a prospect.
