Phillies Prospect Earns Dominican Summer League MVP

That monetary commitment to Renteria has certainly paid off in the early going. He dominated at the Dominican Summer League, taking home several awards and accolades for how well he played on the field.

As shared by the Phillies Player Development account on X, Renteria was named to the DSL All-Star team, was named the DSL’s top MLB prospect and took home the DSL MVP award. All of those honors were well-deserved after he produced some eye-popping statistics.

Renteria was unstoppable at the plate, producing a .379/.470/.682 slash line in 53 games played and 236 plate appearances. His plate discipline was excellent for a 17-year-old, drawing nearly as many walks (34) as times he struck out (36).

Measured at 6-foot-3 and 216 pounds, his raw power was on display throughout the DSL with 11 home runs. He displayed excellent speed and athleticism as well, recording nine doubles, nine triples and 24 stolen bases, being caught only four times.

A fast-rising prospect, it is easy to see why excitement is beginning to grow around the Venezuela product. There is plenty of room for growth, but he is already showcasing some elite traits to build upon.

When a player draws comparisons to Konnor Griffin, the former No. 1 prospect who was making an impact with the Pittsburgh Pirates before his injury, it is difficult to contain excitement. 

Already the No. 3-ranked player in the Philadelphia system, behind right-handed pitcher Gage Wood and Miller, Renteria is a true five-tool player. It will surprise no one if he is featured on some top-100 prospect lists when updates are made during the offseason.
