Cristopher Sanchez has been dealing for the Philadelphia Phillies so far during the 2026 Major League Baseball regular season. Sanchez is eighth in the league in ERA (2.11) and second behind Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers in strikeouts (67). The Dominican Republic native was seemingly untouchable over the last week of action.

The All-Star pitcher started two games, tossing 8.0 scoreless innings against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, followed by 7.0 scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. In total, Sanchez went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 15 innings pitched, allowing nine hits and one walk while striking out 17 batters. The runner-up for the 2025 NL Cy Young Award tied for the lead in wins and ERA for the week, ranked second in innings pitched and strikeouts, and was eighth in WHIP (.67).

The MLB took notice of his strong play, awarding Sanchez the National League Player of the Week Award for Week 6 (May 4-10). This is the first time Sanchez has received the honor in his career. Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals received the honor for the American League.

Philadelphia reacted to the news that same day, taking to social media to promote its star left-handed pitcher. The Phillies posted a picture of the 29-year-old lefty on Instagram and included his stats from the week.

"Dominant stuff from Sanchie," Philadelphia wrote in the caption. "To earn NL Player of the Week "

Philadelphia will head to Fenway Park to begin its three-game series against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, with right-hander Zack Wheeler expected to start.
