Report: Phillies to Acquire Jhoan Duran from Twins

Abel made his major league debut this season, and Tait is currently in High-A. Both Abel and Tait are in the MLB Pipeline Top 100 prospect rankings. This season, Abel has a 2-2 record with a 5.04 ERA in six major league starts. He also has a 2.33 K/BB rate along with a 1.360 WHIP. Tait is a highly touted catching prospect who is in the midst of his age-18 season. This season, he has a .255/.319/.434 line with 11 home runs and 57 RBI in 82 minor league games. Tait has a 107 wRC+ along with a .280 BABIP this year. He does not turn 19 until late August.

Much Needed Bullpen Help

The Phillies have made a significant trade to upgrade the bullpen. Duran has been linked to the Phillies for weeks now and was heavily mentioned in connection with the club in the days leading up to this trade. However, to get this deal done, the Phillies have traded some players they probably would have preferred to keep. In Duran, the Phillies get one of the best relief pitchers in baseball, who is also under team control for two and a half more seasons. We’ll be finding out in short order whether the Phillies front office, led by President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, chooses to make additional moves.
