The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to be very active in the trade market.
The Phillies got off to a brutal 9-19 start to the season, which resulted in Rob Thomson being relieved of his managerial duties. Now, Philadelphia enters the final day before the All-Star break just two games behind the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East and holding the second Wild Card spot in the National League.
President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski is known for making bold moves at the trade deadline and this year should be no different, according to this latest trade news report.
In a July 12 article for USA TODAY Sports, MLB Insider Bob Nightengale revealed that the Phillies have shown interest in Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell.
“The Phillies have included Diamondbacks left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. among their possible trade targets for a right-handed hitting outfielder, which also includes Angels right fielder Jo Adell," Nightengale wrote.

The Phillies outfield took a bit of a hit this year after offseason addition Adolis García suffered a torn right lat muscle, which ended his first, and perhaps only, season with the ballclub. So it is certainly safe to say that the Phillies may need to bolster their outfield depth via the trade market.
Gurriel, who's in the final year of a three-year, $42 million contract he inked with Arizona, is nearly a year removed from tearing his right ACL, which cut his 2025 season short.
Gurriel's injury resulted in him starting 2026 on the injured list. In 45 games thus far, the 32-year-old is slashing just .216/.265/.299 with two home runs and 20 RBI. While the Diamondbacks remain in the thick of the NL Wild Card race, Gurriel seems like a logical trade chip given his expiring contract.
Another logical trade acquisition is the aforementioned Adell, who is expected to draw significant interest from across the league, with the Angels once again looking like sellers at the deadline.
The 27-year-old is batting .247/.294/.399 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI across 95 games for Los Angeles. Adell also brings a prolific glove in right field, having made numerous impressive plays this season.
Since losing García, the Phillies have had to rotate players like Gabriel Rincones Jr., Edmundo Sosa and Derek Hill in the outfield this year to complement Brandon Marsh and rookie Justin Crawford.
With the Phillies looking to find an established corner outfielder to play alongside Marsh and Crawford, Gurriel and Adell look like potential fits.
