After losing two of three to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park, the Philadelphia Phillies fall to 6-6 through this early stage of the 2026 season. The Phillies won the first game of the series, but were shut out in back-to-back games, ultimately getting outscored 11-0 in the final two contests. For the Phillies, it marks another season of being unable to defeat the Giants in a series at Oracle Park.
After falling behind 4-0 in the series opener on Monday with rookie Andrew Painter on the mound, the Phillies’ offense was able to string together several hits in the back half of the game. Bryce Harper collected three hits and knocked in three runs, including a pair of runs batted in on a bases-loaded single.
The bullpen was lights out, allowing just two hits in five total innings as closer Jhoan Duran sealed the game. It seemed as if the Phillies were on the verge of finally breaking the curse of Oracle Park and winning a series in San Francisco, something not accomplished since May 2013.
Game two of the series saw the Phillies’ ace, Christopher Sanchez, give up 11 hits as the offense struggled against veteran lefty Robbie Ray. Philadelphia’s defense certainly did not help Sanchez, as several plays could have been made to prevent damage from the Giants’ offense. The bottom four of the Phillies lineup went a combined 0-14 with one walk, resulting in the first of two consecutive shutouts.
The series finale featured Aaron Nola having a strong outing on the mound until he left a pitch in the zone to Rafael Devers, who crushed a three-run home run to deep center field. The offense once again was non-existent, going a combined 4-31 with five walks.
Philadelphia’s hitters were unable to come up with clutch hits when it mattered most, going 0-5 with runners in scoring position and leaving nine men on base. The Phillies seemingly never play well at Oracle Park, and this series was just another showing of poor play by Philadelphia’s offense.
Since 2014, the Philadelphia Phillies are 8-27 at Oracle Park, winning just two of the previous twelve games in the last five years. The Phillies looked to break the curse of Oracle Park this year, but after 20 consecutive scoreless innings , the series losing streak will continue for at least another year. Catcher J.T. Realmuto was injured in the first inning of the second game of the series after taking a foul ball off his foot. He will be evaluated during the off day on Thursday and hopes to play on Friday at home.
The Phillies are off to a shockingly slow start. The team is 6-6 after the first four series of the season while playing some of the worst teams in baseball last year. With a West Coast road trip out of the way early in the season, they’ll return home Friday to begin a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, a team that shares the same .500 record. While this club never seems to get off to a strong start, the offense is in a bind early to begin its 2026 campaign, something that needs to change quickly.
